Four years of intensive research and development went into creating the Blackbird, resulting in the fastest tyre ever developed by Hutchinson. Rolling resistance has been improved by 10% compared to the previous generation Fusion 5, while offering an increased tread life of over 4000 km, putting it at the top of its class.At the heart of the reduction in rolling resistance is Hutchinson’s new ‘SwiftEasy Casing’ construction. This new construction sees the 127tpi carcass of the tyres wrapped around the bead wire, then bonded directly to a central polyamide puncture protection strip instead of the usual process of layering these layers.A final carcass layer extends from bead to bead to ensure a watertight seal. The SwiftEasy Casing construction provides a much softer point of contact with the road, significantly improving both rolling resistance and comfort. The result is a superfast, comfortable and lightweight tyre, with the 28mm Blackbird TLR weighing in at just 290g.Another technology introduced on the Blackbird is ‘Mach Tread 3.0’, the fastest and most efficient compound ever developed by Hutchinson. This new compound is a completely new formulation with considerably reduced rolling resistance and a high rebound that provides a better energy return (+25%) when it comes into contact with the road.The Mach Tread 3.0 compound is also 10% harder than the previous 11Storm compound, which means that the tyre offers increased resistance to tearing in the event of being cut by debris and an impressive lifespan of over 4,000 km. These improvements are made while retaining the same high levels of grip found in Hutchinson’s previous generation of high performance road tyres.The tyre has been specifically designed around modern, wider rims, with a tread area 15% wider than previous generation tyres. This, combined with the more flexible SwiftEasy Casing construction, means that the tyre’s footprint is wider than it is long, allowing for bold cornering and reduced rolling resistance.The 28 and 30mm TLR versions are compatible with Hookless technology.Features: Foldable beads.
